Research and Conservation

Our forest

Agualí forest is self-regenerative, meaning that although long ago it was only grassland, we only take care and preserve while the process of natural succession was passing. As time goes by, the forest appeared. Now it is a transitional type of forest from dry forest to cloud forest. This area of almost 9 hectares is today an ecosystem that has mammalians, reptiles, birds and many insects that collaborate with the natural development.

Citizen science

We contribute to citizen science through building a participatory community research. We are training youth in use and management of tools that allow us to contribute to research. Twice a year we participate in the Global Big Day, a special day in which we do bird watching, in order to report and interpret bird behaviors. Aguali is a site of interest for birdwatching, as on June the 30th 2023, 153 species have been reported.
